Abstract:
The aim of this study was to determine the trend of the general incidence of fungi infections in separate voivodeships basing on data gathered by Chief Sanitary Inspectorate during 2005-2008 and to estimation of the reports of fungi infections in łódzkie voivodeship in 2007. In 2005, the incidence rate for Poland amounted to 14.4 and in 2008 it amounted to 19.4 on 100,000. During 2005-2008, a significant increase was observed in the number of reported cases in the following voivodeships: opolskie, mazowieckie and wielkopolskie. The decrease in the number of reports was noticed in the following voivodeships: kujawsko-pomorskie, lubuskie, podlaskie, świetokrzyskie, warmńsko-mazurskie. In dolnoślaskie voivodship, lubuskie voivodeship, łódzkie voivodship, podkarpackie voivodeship and zachodniopomorskie voivodeship the number of reported cases was low and did not exceed 100 people a year. The highest infection rates in 2008 were registered in opolskie voivodeship -122.3; high above 30 on 100,000 in voivodeships: świetokrzyskie (60.3), pomorskie (34.8) and mazowieckie (34.4). The lowest infection rates below 5/100,000 were observed in lubuskie voivodeship (3.4), łódzkie voivodeship (3.4), zachodniopomorskie voivodeship (2.5), dolnoślaskie voivodeship (1.6), and podkarpackie voivodeship (1.3). In 8 voivodeships dermatophytoses amounted to over 70% of all reported infections, in three voivodeships (łódzkie, warmińsko-mazurskie, and zachodniopomorskie) only 30%. In łódzkie voivodeship in 2007, 79 fungi infections were reported; 54 out of them were registered in łódzki poviat. Over a half of these reports came from one voivodeship specialist hospital and these were patients hospitalized because of mycosis. Great differences exist between individual voivodeships, which justifies the statement that the obligation of reporting was not correctly fulfilled in each place. That is why, in the light of these facts, it is difficult to perform a reliable analysis of incidence of fungi-related diseases in Poland.
