Summary

This study found that oral stereognosis tests reliably measure oral stereognostic perception in complete denture patients. However, it did not confirm a link between this perception and patient satisfaction with dentures.

Area of Science:

  • Dentistry
  • Oral Health
  • Prosthodontics

Background:

  • Patient satisfaction with complete dentures is crucial for quality of life.
  • Oral stereognosis, the ability to perceive objects in the mouth, may influence denture satisfaction.
  • Previous research suggested a correlation between oral stereognosis and complete denture satisfaction.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the relationship between oral stereognostic perception and patient satisfaction with complete dentures.
  • To assess the reliability of the oral stereognosis test in this patient population.

Main Methods:

  • Patients undergoing treatment with complete dentures were evaluated.
  • An oral stereognosis test was administered to assess object identification within the mouth.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Patient satisfaction with their complete dentures was also measured.
  • Main Results:

    • The oral stereognosis test demonstrated reliability in measuring patients' oral stereognostic perception.
    • A positive correlation between oral stereognosis and satisfaction with complete dentures, as reported in other studies, was not found in this investigation.

    Conclusions:

    • The applied oral stereognosis test is a reliable tool for assessing oral sensory perception.
    • This study did not establish a significant relationship between oral stereognostic ability and satisfaction levels with complete dentures.
