Brain Imaging

Brain imaging technologies provide critical insights into both the structure and function of the human brain, enabling medical professionals and researchers to diagnose, study, and treat neurological disorders or psychiatric disorders more effectively.
These technologies include computerized axial tomography (CAT or CT scans), positron-emission tomography (PET scans),  magnetic resonance imaging (MRI),  functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS).

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the association between adult attachment styles (anxious and avoidant) and gray matter volume.
  • To examine the relationship between affective loss, attachment style, and neural structure.
  • To explore potential neurobiological mechanisms underlying attachment's influence on emotion regulation and loss response.

Main Methods:

  • Utilized Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and voxel-based morphometry (VBM) in a healthy adult sample (n=32).

  • Early attachment experiences may contribute to lasting structural brain variations evident in adulthood.
  • Findings suggest a neural pathway through which attachment style influences individual responses to affective loss.
