Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Urology

Background:

  • Seminoma is a type of testicular cancer.
  • Recurrence of seminoma can occur even after initial treatment.

Observation:

  • A 36-year-old male with a history of sibling seminoma presented with a large, ulcerated mass in the right testis and inguinal regions.

Findings:

  • Biopsy confirmed pure seminoma with extensive retroperitoneal and pelvic lymph node metastases.
  • Positron emission tomography indicated residual tumor after chemotherapy.
  • Surgical resection of the residual lesion and testis showed no vital tumor tissue.

Implications:

  • This case highlights the possibility of late recurrence in seminoma.
  • Multimodal treatment including chemotherapy and surgery can be effective in managing advanced or recurrent seminoma.
