Area of Science:

  • Reproductive Medicine
  • Medical Diagnostics
  • Obstetrics and Gynecology

Background:

  • Ectopic pregnancy (EP) is a significant cause of first-trimester pregnancy-related mortality.
  • Clinical presentation of EP often mimics other conditions, complicating diagnosis.
  • Early detection is crucial for minimizing morbidity and determining the need for surgical intervention.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To review and analyze the existing literature on diagnostic markers for ectopic pregnancy.
  • To evaluate the utility and statistical performance of various diagnostic tools.

Main Methods:

  • Comprehensive literature search on ectopic pregnancy diagnostic markers.
  • Analysis of diagnostic accuracy and statistical parameters of identified markers.

  • Summary and commentary on current diagnostic approaches.
  • Main Results:

    • Ultrasound and serum biomarkers are currently employed for early ectopic pregnancy detection.
    • Various markers show differing levels of utility and statistical significance.
    • Challenges remain in developing definitive diagnostic criteria due to symptom overlap.

    Conclusions:

    • Improved diagnostic tools are needed for early and accurate ectopic pregnancy identification.
    • Further research into the efficacy and statistical validity of diagnostic markers is warranted.
    • Timely diagnosis remains paramount for effective patient management and improved outcomes.
