Community Based Intervention01:30

Community Based Intervention

Community-based interventions in mental health represent a paradigm shift from institution-centered care to treatments embedded within the fabric of local communities. By prioritizing inclusion and leveraging existing societal structures, this approach fosters a supportive environment conducive to addressing mental health challenges while promoting individual dignity and agency.

Models of Health Promotion and Illness Prevention I01:25

Models of Health Promotion and Illness Prevention I

A model is a theoretical way to understand a concept or an idea. Models can overcome barriers to health regardless of diverse economic and cultural backgrounds. In addition, models make the task easier by providing different ways to approach complex issues. There are two major health promotion models: the health belief model and the health promotion model.
The health belief model (HBM) attempts to predict health-related behavior in specific belief patterns. According to the HBM, a person's...

Impression Management Techniques III: Aligning Actions

Aligning actions are communicative strategies individuals employ to maintain social harmony and preserve personal identity in the face of potential disruptions to social norms. These actions are particularly important in managing social impressions when one's behavior might be seen as inappropriate, incompetent, or morally questionable.Types of Aligning ActionsThe three principal types of aligning actions are disclaimers, accounts, and apologies.DisclaimersDisclaimers are preventive; they are...
Translation01:31

Translation

Lesson: Translation
Translation is the process of synthesizing proteins from the genetic information carried by messenger RNA (mRNA). Following transcription, it constitutes the final step in the expression of genes. This process is carried out by ribosomes, complexes of protein and specialized RNA molecules. Ribosomes, transfer RNA (tRNA), and other proteins produce a chain of amino acids—the polypeptide—as the end product of translation.

Improving Translational Accuracy02:07

Improving Translational Accuracy

Base complementarity between the three base pairs of mRNA codon and the tRNA anticodon is not a failsafe mechanism. Inaccuracies can range from a single mismatch to no correct base pairing at all. The free energy difference between the correct and nearly correct base pairs can be as small as 3 kcal/ mol. With complementarity being the only proofreading step, the estimated error frequency would be one wrong amino acid in every 100 amino acids incorporated. However, error frequencies observed in...

Area of Science:

  • Community Health
  • Knowledge Translation
  • Health Research

Background:

  • Effective translation of research into practice requires collaboration between researchers and end-users.
  • Understanding the impact on those affected by research is crucial for successful knowledge translation.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To outline practical strategies for translating research knowledge into action within a rural community context.
  • To develop a conceptual framework for knowledge translation by integrating existing models and participatory approaches.

Main Methods:

  • Employed Participatory Action Research (PAR) to generate community-specific knowledge on children's health.
  • Utilized the Ottawa Model of Research Use (OMRU) to guide the translation of generated knowledge into actionable strategies.
  • Applied the Knowledge-to-Action (KTA) conceptual framework to illustrate community engagement in knowledge translation.

Main Results:

  • Defined key concepts, perspectives, and best practices in knowledge translation.
  • Integrated PAR, OMRU, and KTA to form a cohesive conceptual framework for rural community knowledge translation.
  • Identified OMRU strategies that informed PAR for generating actionable health interventions.

Conclusions:

  • Diverse approaches can advance knowledge translation and exchange theory and practice across various contexts.
  • Knowledge must be relevant, appropriate, applicable, timely, and reasonable to effectively drive change.
