Abstract:
This review illustrates the present core findings of alexithymia research. We provide a brief historical background and then show the most important clinical, epidemiological, and psychophysiological findings, focusing on recent EEG and neuro-imaging studies. We describe the neuropsychological and developmental aspects of alexithymia and link them with possible treatment concepts and strategies for outcome evaluation. Finally, suggestions for further empirical research activities are given.
