Holographic cylindrical grating for cosmic x-ray and XUV spectroscopy in grazing incidence
Abstract:
The theory of the holographically prepared grating on a cylindrical surface has been developed, to be applicable in grazing incidence, in a convergent beam of light and in transmission in the objective mode for the design of x-ray and XUV spectrographic systems. The design parameters for a grating with minimum astigmatism for the entire wavelength range up to 0.050 microm and zero astigmatism at one wavelength in this region have been calculated. The other wavelength at which astigmatism is zero (lambda = 0) helps in reducing astigmatism throughout the entire wavelength region being considered. Coma type aberration and resolution at different wavelengths have also been estimated.

X-ray Diffraction of Biological Samples
According to Bragg's law, when X-rays strike the sample positioned on a stage, the rays are scattered by the electron clouds around the sample atoms. The X-ray diffraction or scattering is caused by constructive interference of the X-ray waves that reflect off the internal crystal...

Diffraction
Diffraction is the change in the direction of travel experienced by an electromagnetic wave when it encounters a physical barrier whose dimensions are comparable to those of the wavelength of the light. X-rays are electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths about as long as the distance between neighboring...
