    Background:

    • Laser speckle is a common artifact that degrades image quality.
    • Current speckle reduction methods have limitations in effectiveness.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the efficacy of double phase modulation using ultrasonic waves for laser speckle reduction.
    • To compare the effectiveness of double phase modulation against single phase modulation.

    Main Methods:

    • Laser light was doubly phase modulated by an ultrasonic wave.
    • Spatial coherence of the modulated laser beam was analyzed.
    • Average contrast was measured and calculated as a metric for speckle reduction.
    • Experiments were conducted with two types of diffusers.
