Acute suppurative thyroiditis and the branchial apparatus.

Summary

Acute suppurative thyroiditis and thyroid abscesses can originate from branchial apparatus remnants. This study examines three cases, proposing a diagnostic and management protocol for these rare thyroid infections.

Background:

Acute suppurative thyroiditis and thyroid abscess are uncommon conditions.
A potential origin for these thyroid infections is a sinus tract arising from the pyriform sinus, suggesting a branchial apparatus anomaly.
