Summary

This study found that septal deviation (SD) is associated with a higher incidence of concha bullosa (CB). SD may also influence the development of CB, potentially preventing its formation on the same side as the deviation.

Background:

  • Septal deviation (SD) and concha bullosa (CB) are common nasal cavity abnormalities.
  • The relationship between SD and CB, particularly concerning the degree of deviation and pneumatization, requires further investigation.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine the incidence of CB in patients with SD.
  • To correlate the angle of septal deviation with the degree of CB pneumatization.
  • To compare qualitative and quantitative methods for assessing these correlations.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective analysis of 672 paranasal sinus CT scans.
  • Grouping scans based on the presence and side of SD and CB.
  • Quantitative measurement of SD angles and CB pneumatization degrees.
