[Quantitative study of scarpa ganglion in Menière disease]
1EENT Hospital, Shanghai Medical University.
Abstract:
The Scarpa ganglia and vestibular nerves were obtained by means of vestibular neurectomy in 4 cases of Menière disease. The nucleoli of nerve cells in Scarpa ganglia were counted in every tenth section under the light microscope (3 cases). The formula of Abercrombie was used to correct the errors introduced by double counting of nucleolus splits between two sections. It was found that counts of ganglion cells in three cases appeared to decline. Although the ultrastructural change of the myelin sheaths was found in another case, it is rather difficult to distinguish this change from that due to surgical trauma.
