Summary

Lumbar hernia is a rare cause of back pain. Surgical repair is recommended due to incarceration risk, even for asymptomatic cases, as demonstrated in a recent patient case.

Background:

Lumbar hernia is a rare condition.
It presents with scarce and diffuse symptoms.
Considered a rare differential diagnosis for unexplained back pain.

Observation:

A case of lumbar hernia in a woman with a slow-growing lumbar mass.
The patient presented with pain.
Computed tomography confirmed the diagnosis.

Findings:

Open surgery was performed.
The patient fully recovered.
Recurrence was noted within the first half year.

Implications:

Lumbar hernia requires consideration in unexplained back pain.
