    Area of Science:

    • Gynecology
    • Minimally Invasive Surgery

    Background:

    • Tubal occlusion is a common method for permanent female sterilization.
    • Laparoscopy and minilaparotomy are surgical approaches for tubal occlusion.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the safety and efficacy of the tubal ring technique for permanent contraception.
    • To compare complication rates between laparoscopy and minilaparotomy when using tubal rings.

    Main Methods:

    • A retrospective study of 221 laparoscopies and 29 minilaparotomies using tubal rings for tubal occlusion.
    • Evaluation of surgical and early postoperative complications.
    • Follow-up of 79 patients for over 6 months to assess pregnancy rates.

    Main Results:

    • Complications were infrequent for both laparoscopy and minilaparotomy procedures.

    Related Experiment Videos

  • No procedures required conversion to an alternative occlusion technique.
  • No patients experienced extended hospitalization due to complications.
  • No pregnancies were reported among the 79 patients followed for over 6 months.
  • Conclusions:

    • The tubal ring technique is a safe and effective method for permanent sterilization.
    • Both laparoscopy and minilaparotomy are suitable approaches for tubal ring application.
