  • The patient presented with ulcerated, inflamed toes and feet, fissures, and difficulty walking due to precarious living conditions.

  • The case demonstrated a high parasite load of Tunga penetrans, leading to severe local pathology.
  • Immediate treatment involved manual flea extraction, disinfection, and oral antibiotics.

Implications:

  • This case underscores the potential for severe tungiasis in Tanzania and the need for further research.
  • Systematic studies are crucial to understand the endemicity and geographic distribution of tungiasis in Tanzania to inform public health interventions.
