Skin Cancer

Skin cancer is a type of cancer that occurs when there is an abnormal growth of skin cells, usually triggered by damage to the DNA within the skin cells. It is primarily caused by exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or artificial sources like tanning beds. Summary

Primary ovarian malignant melanoma is a rare diagnosis, often mistaken for metastatic melanoma. Immunohistochemical analysis is crucial for accurate diagnosis of this rare ovarian tumor.

Background:

Primary ovarian malignant melanoma is exceptionally rare, typically arising within dermoid cysts or teratomas.
Metastatic melanoma to the ovary is more common and frequently identified in autopsy studies.

Observation:

A case of primary ovarian malignant melanoma in a 45-year-old woman is presented.
The tumor was unilateral, presenting as a solid, dark brown to black mass.
No extraovarian primary melanoma or teratomatous components were identified.

Findings:

Microscopic examination revealed tumor cells positive for HMB-45, melan-A, and S-100 protein.
Immunohistochemical analysis showed negative immunoreactivity for estrogen and progesterone receptors.
