Characterization of laser-to-fiber coupling techniques by their optical feedback
Abstract:
The power emission from a semiconductor laser rear facet changes characteristically if a reflecting device, e.g., an optical fiber, is placed opposite the laser front facet. Based on this power change a novel method to determine quantitatively the optical feedback from a fiber to a laser is developed. The method is applied to evaluate the feedback of several standard laser-to-fiber coupling techniques.
