Area of Science:

  • Phytochemistry
  • Natural Product Chemistry
  • Organic Chemistry

Context:

  • Kalimeris indica is a plant species with potential medicinal properties.
  • Understanding its chemical composition is crucial for further research and application.
  • Previous phytochemical investigations of this species may be limited.

Purpose:

  • To isolate and identify the chemical constituents of Kalimeris indica.
  • To characterize novel compounds within the Kalimeris genus.

Summary:

  • Eleven compounds were isolated from Kalimeris indica using chromatographic techniques.
  • Structures were elucidated via physicochemical properties and spectral data analysis.
  • Identified compounds include dammaradienyl acetate, friedelin, friedelinol, beta-amyrin, alpha-amyrin, lupenyl acetate, beta-sitosterol, alpha-spinasterol, alpha-spinasterone, stigmasterol, and daucosterol.

Impact:

  • Compounds beta-amyrin, alpha-amyrin, lupenyl acetate, alpha-spinasterol, alpha-spinasterone, stigmasterol, and daucosterol were reported from the genus Kalimeris for the first time.
  • This research contributes to the chemotaxonomic understanding of the Kalimeris genus.
  • Provides a foundation for exploring the biological activities of these isolated compounds.
