Osteopathy in the cranial field may improve visual function in adults with cranial asymmetry. Further research is needed to confirm these findings in larger studies.

Background:

  • The impact of osteopathy in the cranial field (OCF) on visual function, including visual field and binocular alignment, is not well-documented.
  • This study investigated the immediate effects of OCF on visual function in adults experiencing cranial asymmetry.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine if OCF intervention leads to measurable changes in visual function among adults with cranial asymmetry.

Main Methods:

  • A randomized, controlled, double-blinded pilot clinical trial was conducted.
  • Participants (ages 18-35) with cranial somatic dysfunction and specific refractive errors were recruited.
  • Intervention involved OCF for the treatment group and sham treatment for the control group, with pre- and post-intervention optometric testing.

Main Results:

  • Statistically significant improvements were observed within both the OCF and control groups for visual acuity, local stereoacuity, pupillary size, and near point of convergence.
