Summary

A 12-week multicomponent exercise program improved quality of life in older adults living in a Malaysian shelter home. While depression levels did not significantly change, the intervention showed feasibility for enhancing well-being in this population.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the effects of a 12-week multicomponent exercise program on depression and quality of life.
  • To evaluate the feasibility of implementing such a program in a Malaysian institutionalized setting.
  • To compare outcomes between an exercise intervention group and a control group.

Main Methods:

  • A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design was employed.
  • Participants were 43 institutionalized older adults (aged 60+) in Seremban, Malaysia.
