[Comments on the Present State of Prevention and Diagnosis of CHD.]

The author presents a retrospective evaluation of 5170 children submitted at the age of 3 - 4 menths to X-ray examination. The evaluation was made after 10 years as part of prevention of the CHD syndrome. In the examined number there were 1.59 % displasias, 1. 39 % subluxations and dislocation. The ratio of boys and girls was 1: 2.73 in dysplasias and 1 : 8 in subluxations and dislocations. All dysplasias were treated by a Frejka cushion and were normal when checked at the age of 8 months. Treatment with Pavlik straps, used in subluxations and dislocations, led to normal within 9-12 months in 97.22 % of the patients. In two instances (2. 78 %) after-treatment provided after the age of one year using a Duda apparatus. In one girl (1. 39 %) open reposition was performed, in another one (1. 39 %) after an overhead traction closed reposition was performed. 30. 23 % of the infants aged 3-4 months examined by X-ray do not have ossification centres. During the 9th month ossification centres are already present in 96. 52 % of the infants. The author assumes that it is important to administer vitamin D for mineralization of the nuclei, as when vitamin D was not administered in the summer months, evaluation of these infants revealed an increased number with an X-ray finding of non-mineralized nuclei. The author assumes that this is one of the last investigations where the state of CHD based on X -ray examination was evaluated as quite rightly this method is nowadays replaced by sonographic examination.
