Area of Science:

  • Plastic surgery
  • Regenerative medicine

Background:

  • Autologous fat grafting is a common procedure for gluteal augmentation.
  • High resorption rates often necessitate repeat treatments, increasing costs and patient morbidity.

Observation:

  • Current fat storage techniques, including controlled freezing and thawing, preserve high cell viability.
  • Cryopreserved fat offers similar viability to fresh tissue for future injections.

Findings:

  • The study presents a case of gluteal augmentation using cryopreserved autologous fat in a male patient.
  • This approach facilitates the accumulation of fat tissue for subsequent augmentation procedures.

Implications:

  • Cryopreservation of autologous fat offers a viable solution to reduce repeat gluteal augmentation surgeries.
