A Bichon Frise with a nonhealing eye ulcer, likely fungal and bacterial, successfully healed with a combination of topical medications including antifungals and antibiotics. This treatment resolved the corneal ulcer with minimal scarring.

Background:
- A 10-year-old spayed female Bichon Frise presented with a chronic 6-week history of blepharospasm and a nonhealing left eye ulcer.
- Ophthalmic examination revealed a significant corneal ulcer with associated edema and a raised paraxial corneal lesion.
Observation:
- Cytological examination identified fungal hyphae and extracellular cocci within the corneal lesion.
- Bacterial culture confirmed heavy growth of Enterococcus faecalis, and fungal culture identified Curvularia spp.
Findings:
- Treatment involved a multi-modal approach using topical antibiotics (polymyxin B, sulfate/trimetoprim, 10% sulfacetamide sodium), 1% miconazole, autologous serum, and 5% hypertonic saline.
- Clinical signs improved within 8 days of initiating medical therapy.
Implications:
- The combination therapy effectively resolved the complex corneal ulcer in this canine patient.
- Successful treatment resulted in complete ulcer healing with minimal residual corneal scarring, preserving vision.
