Summary

Subperiosteal orbital hematoma (SOH) is a rare orbital injury. Surgical evacuation and drainage offer a safe and effective treatment, resolving hematomas completely and preventing complications.

Background:

  • Subperiosteal orbital hematoma (SOH) is an uncommon consequence of midface trauma.
  • SOH can lead to orbital compartment syndrome, presenting as proptosis and vertical globe displacement.

Observation:

  • Two patients with SOH underwent surgical evacuation and drainage.
  • The procedure involved direct surgical intervention to address the hematoma.

Findings:

  • Both patients experienced complete and uneventful resolution of their hematomas.
  • Surgical decompression and drainage proved effective in evacuating the blood clot.

Implications:

  • Surgical decompression with drainage is a safe and simple method for SOH management.
  • This approach should be considered even in cases without immediate visual impairment to prevent sequelae.
