The family doctor as researcher
Abstract:
There has been a growing interest in research by family physicians, especially over the past decade. A wide range of topics can be studied from the unique viewpoint of family practice, to add to our knowledge and to help develop an academic base for family practice with studies in both private practice and academic settings. Although many projects may be done by one or more practitioners using their own resources, larger group projects require outside financing, which may involve much work and waiting. Deterrents and incentives influence the decision to undertake a research project, but a major deciding factor is curiosity.
