Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the long-term adverse health effects and mortality associated with bitumen fume exposure.
  • To quantify the mortality risks for specific causes among mastic asphalt workers.

  • A cohort study design was employed, following 679 mastic asphalt workers.
  • Mortality data was collected from 1959 to June 1986.
  • Standardized Mortality Ratios (SMR) were calculated to assess risk.
