Summary

Bile duct hamartomas, also known as von Meyenburg complex, are rare benign liver tumors. These hamartomas can mimic metastatic liver disease on imaging, complicating diagnosis and patient management.

Background:

  • Standard imaging like ultrasound and CT often fail to detect BDH, necessitating advanced diagnostic techniques.

Observation:

  • A 45-year-old female presented with symptomatic cholelithiasis.
  • Intraoperative laparoscopy revealed multiple lesions on the liver surface.
  • These lesions were initially suspected to be hepatic metastases due to their appearance.

Findings:

  • The observed liver lesions were confirmed to be bile duct hamartomas.
  • This case highlights the potential for BDH to be misdiagnosed as malignant disease.
  • Magnetic resonance cholangiography is recommended for accurate diagnosis of BDH.

Implications:
