Accurate dental impressions are crucial for fabricating precise models.
Dimensional stability of impression materials over time is a critical factor in clinical outcomes.
The accuracy of digital models compared to traditional plaster models requires ongoing evaluation.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the dimensional stability of two traditional alginates and two alginate substitutes.
To compare the dimensional accuracy of OraMetrix digital models against traditional plaster models.

Main Methods:

Four impression materials were used to create impressions of a typodont.
Impressions were poured with plaster at 72 hours, 120 hours, and 1 week.
Digital models were created using OraMetrix software and compared with plaster models.

ImprEssix alginate exhibited changes in vertical and intercanine dimensions.
OraMetrix digital models were significantly smaller in all dimensions compared to plaster models.

Conclusions:

Identic alginate should not be used if impressions cannot be poured immediately due to its instability.
Alginate substitutes demonstrated superior dimensional stability over time.
OraMetrix digital models were found to be clinically unacceptable when compared to plaster models.
