Summary

Leptin administration into the hippocampus suppresses methamphetamine-induced hyperactivity in mice. This suggests leptin signaling in the hippocampus may involve novel pathways beyond JAK-STAT and MAPK.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the role of leptin signaling within the hippocampus.
  • To determine leptin's effect on methamphetamine-induced ambulatory hyperactivity in mice.

Main Methods:

  • Intra-hippocampal infusions of leptin or saline in mice.
  • Measurement of basal and methamphetamine-induced ambulatory activity.
  • Analysis of JAK-STAT and p42/44 MAPK pathway activation.
