Summary

Transumbilical laparoendoscopic single-site surgery (LESS) is a safe and feasible approach for pediatric partial nephrectomy. This minimally invasive technique successfully removed a renal mass in a child with excellent outcomes.

  • A homemade single-port device was utilized through a 3-cm umbilical incision.
  • The procedure involved hilar clamping and meticulous suturing of the renal defect.

Findings:

  • The surgery was completed in 210 minutes with a warm ischemic time of 42 minutes.
  • Histopathology confirmed a 3.5-cm metanephric adenoma with clear surgical margins.
  • The patient experienced no intraoperative or postoperative complications and showed normal renal function on follow-up.

Implications:

  • Transumbilical LESS partial nephrectomy demonstrates safety and feasibility in pediatric patients.
  • Further advancements in instrumentation and suturing techniques are warranted for wider adoption.
  • This approach represents a promising minimally invasive option for pediatric renal mass management.
