Giant paravertebral myxoma

This case report details a rare, giant intramuscular myxoma (IMM) in the paravertebral muscles, a benign soft tissue tumor. The massive tumor was successfully excised, leading to a full recovery for the patient.

Background:

- A 70-year-old woman presented with back pain, waist asymmetry, and a large right paravertebral mass.
- Initial CT-guided biopsy led to a misdiagnosis of juxtafacet synovial cyst.
- The mass measured approximately 15 cm, significantly larger than typical paravertebral myxomas.

- Histological examination confirmed the mass as a low-grade myxoid neoplasm with features of an intramuscular myxoma.
- This represents the fifth reported case of a paravertebral IMM and potentially the largest documented.
