Higher serotonin 1A binding in a second major depression cohort: modeling and reference region considerations

Higher serotonin 1A receptor (5-HT(1A)) binding potential (BP(F)) in major depressive disorder (MDD) was confirmed in a new cohort. Methodological choices, specifically reference region and outcome measure, significantly impact 5-HT(1A) findings in MDD.

- The selection of reference region and outcome measure critically affects 5-HT(1A) receptor findings in MDD.
- Higher 5-HT(1A) BP(F) in MDD is reliably detected using a method with minimal assumptions about non-specific binding.
- Employing a reference region devoid of 5-HT(1A) receptors is recommended for accurate BP(F) assessment in MDD research.
