Summary
Desmoid tumors of the breast are rare, slow-growing lesions. This report details two cases of breast desmoid tumors occurring after breast augmentation surgery.
Area of Science:
- Oncology
- Pathology
Background:
- Desmoid tumors are rare, aggressive fibroblastic neoplasms accounting for 0.2% of breast tumors.
- These lesions are histologically benign but can invade local tissues.
Observation:
- Two cases of breast desmoid tumors were observed in women who underwent breast augmentation.
- During implant revision surgery, masses were found arising from the periprosthetic capsule near the pectoralis major muscle.
Findings:
- Histological examination confirmed extra-abdominal desmoid tumors in both patients.
- Surgical resection of the mass, periprosthetic capsule, and adjacent pectoral muscle fascia was performed.
Implications:
- Breast augmentation may be a potential risk factor for desmoid tumor development.
- Early detection and complete surgical excision are crucial for managing these rare breast tumors.
