Skin Cancer

Skin cancer is a type of cancer that occurs when there is an abnormal growth of skin cells, usually triggered by damage to the DNA within the skin cells. It is primarily caused by exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or artificial sources like tanning beds. Summary

Cytokeratin 7 (CK7) immunoreactivity was evaluated in cutaneous squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs). A subset of SCCs, especially poorly differentiated tumors, may show focal CK7 staining, aiding in differential diagnosis.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the expression of cytokeratin 7 (CK7) in primary cutaneous SCCs.
  • To determine the frequency and pattern of CK7 immunoreactivity in SCCs.
  • To assess the utility of CK7 in distinguishing SCC from other skin tumors.

Main Methods:

  • Evaluation of 27 primary cutaneous SCCs from 25 patients.
  • Assessment of tumor grade using hematoxylin and eosin staining.
