Area of Science:

  • Urology
  • Surgical Techniques
  • Body Contouring

Background:

  • Continent urinary diversion, such as Kock's technique, is a complex urological procedure.
  • Managing complications related to stoma site integrity is crucial for patient outcomes.

Observation:

  • A patient developed significant subcutaneous fat deposition around a continent urostomy stoma.
  • This fat deposit led to skin irritation and challenges with intermittent catheterization.

Findings:

  • Liposuction effectively reduced the peritomal fat deposit.
  • Successful management of the fat deposit improved stoma site health and eased catheterization.

Implications:

  • Liposuction presents a viable treatment option for managing localized fat hypertrophy complicating urostomy stomas.
  • This minimally invasive approach can enhance patient quality of life by resolving functional and dermatological issues.
