Summary

Stentless laparoscopic pyeloplasty is a viable option for adults with ureteropelvic junction obstruction. However, postoperative stenting may be frequently needed in pediatric patients undergoing this procedure.

  • Operative times were comparable between pediatric (median 100 min) and adult (median 110 min) groups.
  • Four of ten pediatric patients required postoperative stenting due to urine leak; one needed re-implantation.
  • Only one of six adult patients required postoperative stenting for persistent urinary leak.

Conclusions:

  • Stentless laparoscopic pyeloplasty can be considered for adult primary ureteropelvic junction obstruction.
  • The need for postoperative stenting is higher in pediatric patients undergoing this procedure.
