1Klinik für Anaesthesiologie und Intensivtherapie, Städtisches Krankenhaus im Friedrichshain, Berlin.
Abstract:
Anaesthesia was first established in Berlin in 1949 at the "Am Urban Hospital" and in 1950 at the Academy of Sciences. The first Berlin specialist was a Dr. Jüngling, a pupil of Mayrhofer, at the "Friedrichshain Hospital", the first medical superintendents were appointed in 1956. The standard work on early anaesthesia was written by Prof. L. Barth and Prof. M. Meyer in 1961. In 1963 Prof. Kolb was appointed to the Chair of Anaesthesia at the Free University and 6 years later Prof. Schädlich to that at the Charité Hospital. On 12th March 1990 Berlin's anaesthetists held their first joint meeting.
