Summary

Anatomically contoured anterior plates facilitate successful ankle fusion with high union rates and improved patient pain. This technique offers advantages like minimal soft tissue disruption and early rehabilitation.

The ankle is formed by the talocrural joint (crural = leg). It consists of the articulations between the talus bone of the foot and the distal ends of the tibia and fibula of the leg. One patient required revision surgery for screw loosening, achieving fusion post-revision.

No postoperative wound complications or infections reported.

All patients experienced pain reduction post-fusion.

Conclusions:

Anatomically contoured plates offer advantages including reduced soft tissue disruption via a single anterior incision.
Facilitates deformity correction and allows for early rehabilitation.
Demonstrates a high rate of bony union in ankle arthrodesis.
