Adults with Down syndrome (DS) have lower peak exercise capacity but similar oxygen uptake (VO2) kinetics during moderate exercise compared to controls. This suggests their submaximal exercise performance is not limited by VO2 response dynamics.

- Despite lower peak exercise capacity, adults with Down syndrome exhibit comparable VO2 kinetics during moderate-intensity exercise onset and recovery.
- The dynamic response of oxygen uptake during submaximal exercise is not a limiting factor for exercise performance in adults with DS.
- These findings highlight that other physiological factors likely contribute to the reduced exercise capacity in this population.
