Self-Report Tests of Personality01:22

Self-Report Tests of Personality

Self-report inventories are objective personality assessments that use multiple-choice items or numbered scales, typically ranging from 1 (strongly disagree) to 5 (strongly agree). They are often called Likert scales after Rensis Likert. These inventories are widely used due to their ease of administration and cost-effectiveness. One of the most prominent examples is the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), initially developed in the 1940s to assess abnormal personality traits.

Summary

The DemTect-B is a validated parallel version of the DemTect-A, suitable for repeated cognitive assessments. Both dementia screening tools are interchangeable for identifying mild cognitive impairment.

Area of Science:

  • Neuroscience
  • Psychometrics

Context:

  • Cognitive screening is crucial for dementia diagnosis.
  • The DemTect-A is a widely used cognitive screening tool in German-speaking countries.
  • There was a need for a parallel version of the DemTect-A for follow-up assessments.

Purpose:

  • To introduce and validate the DemTect-B as an equivalent parallel version of the DemTect-A.
  • To assess the interchangeability of DemTect-A and DemTect-B in cognitive screening.

Summary:

  • The DemTect-B was developed as a parallel version of the DemTect-A, maintaining an identical difficulty level.
  • Eighty control subjects participated in a randomized study comparing DemTect-A and DemTect-B.
  • Statistical analysis showed no significant difference in total test values between the two versions after a necessary conversion for a modified semantic fluency task.

Impact:

  • The DemTect-B is a reliable replication of the DemTect-A, allowing for mutual interchangeability.
  • This parallel version is particularly useful for follow-up examinations in dementia diagnostics.
  • Both DemTect-A and DemTect-B are effective tools for identifying individuals with mild dementia and mild cognitive impairment.
