Interstitial cells of Cajal (ICC) in the colon of ulcerative colitis (UC) patients show degenerative changes and altered contact with nerve terminals, suggesting a role in UC pathophysiology. These findings highlight potential mechanisms underlying gut dysfunction in severe UC.
