    Summary

New Stark resonances in methylene fluoride were observed using a carbon dioxide (CO2) laser. These findings enable the stabilization of a formic acid laser for advanced spectroscopic applications.

    Area of Science:

    • Molecular spectroscopy
    • Laser physics
    • Quantum optics

    Background:

    • Methylene fluoride (CH2F2) is a molecule with significant applications in laser technology.
    • Carbon dioxide (CO2) lasers provide a versatile source for molecular spectroscopy.
    • Stark resonances are crucial for understanding molecular interactions with electric fields.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate and report novel Stark resonances in methylene fluoride.
    • To utilize these resonances for stabilizing an optically pumped laser system.

    Main Methods:

    • High-resolution spectroscopy using a 9.4-micrometer (μm) carbon dioxide (CO2) laser.
    • Observation of Stark resonances on the R18 transition of methylene fluoride.
    • Application of observed resonances to frequency stabilization techniques.
