Background:

  • Growth hormone (GH) is crucial for various physiological processes, but its direct impact on renal tubular acid secretion is not fully understood.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the effect of recombinant human growth hormone (GH) on tubular hydrogen ion (H+) secretion in isolated kidneys from intact and hypophysectomized rats.
  • To determine if insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) or insulin can mimic GH's effects on renal acid secretion.

Main Methods:

  • Isolated perfused kidneys from intact and hypophysectomized rats were used.
  • Net acid secretion was measured by assessing HCO3- absorption and NH+4 excretion.
