Post-seclusion debriefing is not routinely provided by nurses in psychiatric units. Developing a debriefing framework is essential for improving seclusion management and patient care.

To determine the frequency and nature of post-seclusion debriefing by nurses.
To assess current practices in a Melbourne psychiatric unit.

Analysis of seclusion register data over one year.
File audit tool to examine documented debriefing interventions in consumer case files.

Post-seclusion debriefing is not consistently or routinely performed.
