Tuberculosis of the breast presenting as mammary carcinoma
1Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Abstract:
A twenty-eight-year-old female was referred from a district hospital with suspected carcinoma of the breast. She had a painless lump in the right breast with bilateral axillary swellings. A discharging sinus in the left anterior axillary region was also present. The surgical residents and a consultant surgeon at the hospital where she was treated concurred with the diagnosis of the referring medical officer. However, histopathological reporting showed that the swelling was in fact due to tuberculosis of the breast.
