Alcohol-induced depressive-like behavior is associated with cortical norepinephrine reduction

Chronic alcohol exposure in rats induced depression-like behaviors, which were reversed by antidepressants. Norepinephrine (NE) in the cortex appears crucial for these alcohol-induced depressive symptoms, suggesting NE uptake inhibitors may help treat co-occurring alcoholism and depression.
