Area of Science:

  • Plastic Surgery
  • Body Contouring
  • Surgical Classification

Background:

  • Liposuction's introduction in the 1980s revolutionized body contouring surgery.
  • Abdominoplasty evolved into a classification system (Types I-IV) for abdominal contour procedures.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To describe the full (Type IV) abdominoplasty procedure, including its combination with liposuction (lipoabdominoplasty).
  • To outline 10 "special situations" encountered in abdominoplasty patients.

Main Methods:

  • Detailed description of a full (Type IV) abdominoplasty.
  • Explanation of lipoabdominoplasty as abdominoplasty with extensive liposuction.
  • Categorization and discussion of 10 specific patient scenarios.

Main Results:

  • The article provides a comprehensive overview of Type IV abdominoplasty and lipoabdominoplasty.
  • Key considerations and management strategies for 10 distinct patient subgroups are presented.

Conclusions:

  • The abdominolipoplasty classification system provides a framework for treatment.
  • Understanding "special situations" is crucial for successful abdominoplasty outcomes.
