  • Epiphora, or excessive tearing, significantly impacts daily life and can cause visual disturbances.
  • Nasolacrimal duct obstructions are often idiopathic, but can arise from nasal surgery, trauma, or inflammatory conditions.
  • Current treatment options for nasolacrimal obstructions vary in invasiveness and efficacy.

Purpose:

  • To evaluate the efficacy of endonasal endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) using conventional surgical instruments for treating nasolacrimal obstructions.
  • To assess the safety and recovery profile of this minimally invasive surgical approach.

Summary:

  • A retrospective study analyzed 12 female patients who underwent endonasal endoscopic DCR for nasolacrimal obstructions.
  • The procedure was performed by combined otorhinolaryngologist and ophthalmologist teams, with concomitant septoplasty or lateral lamiectomy in select cases.
  • No intraoperative or immediate postoperative complications were noted; two patients required reoperation.
