Summary

A novel resin-based calcium phosphate cement (RCPC) demonstrated superior direct pulp capping outcomes. RCPC promoted significant dentin healing and repair in dog and ferret teeth compared to controls.

  • Teeth were treated with RCPC or visible light-curing resin-modified calcium hydroxide (VLCCH) and restored with composite resin.
  • Histological evaluation of pulp response and dentin repair was conducted at various time points.
  • Main Results:

    • RCPC treatment resulted in significant dentin healing and repair in most healthy dog pulps.
    • 75% of RCPC-treated inflamed ferret teeth showed evidence of dentin healing and repair.
    • Control teeth treated with VLCCH exhibited minimal healing and dentin repair.

    Conclusions:

    • Direct pulp capping with RCPC showed superior healing and repair capabilities.
    • RCPC is a promising material for direct pulp capping procedures.
    • The findings suggest RCPC enhances regenerative processes in dental pulp.
