Summary

Prednisone, a common corticosteroid, does not significantly impact respiratory muscle strength or endurance in healthy individuals over a short-term, moderate-dose regimen. This study found no adverse effects on breathing muscles from prednisone treatment.

    Conclusions:

    • Moderate-dose prednisone (20 mg daily) for two weeks does not appear to significantly impair respiratory muscle strength or endurance in healthy humans.
    • These findings suggest that short-term prednisone use at this dosage is unlikely to negatively affect respiratory muscle function in a healthy population.
